For the second year in a row, and third year total, East Coast Throwdown has been graced by the folks over at Capcom, being named to the prestigious Capcom Pro Tour Ranking Event. Capcom Cup 2016 was one of the most exciting esports events of the season last year, and we couldn’t be more honored or excited to be part of the circuit leading up to it once again.
The point structure for this year is a bit different, and while it follows the same overall structure — Ranking Events got a huge buff as you’ll see in the table below. Place in the top 16 and win some points, but if you do the math — Ranking events are significantly more important this year than ever before. Without creating a wall of text, I’ll show you the official distribution from Capcom.
As you can see, the scale is steep. It wouldn’t be worth the esports glory if it weren’t, however. Historically, East Coast Throwdown’s player pool has been stacked. Last year we saw Daigo upset in surprising fashion by both Lud and RayRay; Julio made a tremendous romp through the top 32, Alucard ran amok in our unforgettable ECT vs Daigo exhibition and has had continued success as a member of F3, and much more. We’ve done our best to bring you a hype event every single year, and we’ve got a lot of tournament news in store for all of you that we’ll be revealing in the coming weeks and months. With ECT back in the Capcom Pro Tour for 2017, and the changes we’ve made to make our fan, player, and broadcast viewer experience best-in-class, we cannot wait to see what you all think of this year’s event.
